Japan Intake
Picking the right Japan intake affects far more than just your start date it shapes your entire application timeline, from language school enrollment to Certificate of Eligibility (COE) processing. Getting this wrong is one of the most common (and avoidable) planning mistakes we see.
Japan's Main Intake Periods
Japanese language schools and universities generally admit international students through three major admission intake periods every year. You can verify the latest academic calendar and admission information on the official Study in Japan website.
🌸 April Intake
The most popular and competitive intake, matching the beginning of Japan's academic year. It offers the widest range of language school and university options.
☀️ July Intake
A popular alternative with slightly less competition. The July intake Japan option is ideal for students who need additional preparation time.
🍂 October Intake
Available at many Japanese language schools and selected universities, providing another excellent opportunity to begin your studies.
Which Intake Is Better?
There is no single best admission intake. Your ideal admission period depends on your academic schedule, document readiness, language proficiency, and your chosen institution. Many students believe April is always the best choice, but the July intake Japan option often provides more preparation time and smoother admission processing.
Planning Backward from Your Japan Intake
Successful students begin preparing months before their preferred Study intake. Since the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) usually takes 2–4 months to process, careful planning is essential.
- Choose your preferred intake (April, July, or October).
- Apply to your preferred Japanese language school or university at least 4–6 months before the intake.
- Prepare academic, financial, and supporting documents immediately after receiving admission.
- Submit your COE application with enough time to avoid processing delays.
- Apply for your student visa once your COE is issued.

Japan Intake for Nepali Students
For most students in Nepal, the April and July intake Japan options are the most suitable because they align well with SEE and +2 graduation schedules. Applying early gives you enough time for school admission, COE approval, and visa processing before your classes begin.
If you're planning to study in Japan from Nepal, starting your application several months before your preferred intake will significantly reduce unnecessary delays.
Before applying, it's also recommended to complete a Japanese Language Course to strengthen your language skills and improve your admission readiness.
